Usability assessment of a novel smart blister

Recently, an electronic version of the Dosepak® (EDP) has been developed to monitor adherence to tablets, pills or capsules. It consists of a customizable blister package with a re-usable electronic module that records when the package is opened and closed. In this project we aimed to assess the usability and acceptance of the EDP, and to monitor dose-taking adherence. At MAECON, we performed this study in 20 healthy volunteers and combined quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. The results will inform future implementation.

After our feedback, an improved version of the smart blister was developed, now connected with a smartphone app to enable direct patient feedback. This novel version has also been tested by MAECON in a randomised controlled trial. This version showed high usability.
