After delivering the world’s first ever study with a digital spacer in patients with COPD (see here), MAECON is happy to announce that now also a first randomised controlled trial in patients with asthma treated in primary care has been completed and published in peer-reviewed journal Respiratory Medicine (see here).
In this trial, half of the 42 patients across 4 general practices were allocated to receive usual care and the other half received tailored inhaler adherence and technique feedback based on data from a digital spacer. After 2 months, patients in the digital spacer group had around one third less inhaler errors. Both patients and healthcare providers highly valued the digital spacer.
Currently, MAECON is leading a multi-center follow-up study (see here) in 5 Dutch severe asthma centers testing the digital spacer in over 100 patients with severe asthma using biologics to better understand treatment response.
